Oracle Corp.'s proposed acquisition of Sun Microsystems Inc. is facing close antitrust scrutiny on both sides of the Atlantic, raising challenges for the company in closing the $7.4 billion deal within the timetable it gave investors.
The Redwood City, Calif.-based database giant said in June that although the U.S. Department of Justice had escalated an initial probe into the deal, it didn't expect the deal to be delayed beyond the end of the current fiscal quarter, in August.
But European Union regulators' interest in the deal, alongside that of their U.S. counterparts, means Oracle may struggle ...
