break in: to overcome the stiffness and newness of <break in a pair of shoes>
rock the boat: to disturb the equilibrium of a situation
上面的解释是我从字典上查的。
合适的翻译应该由上下文来定。break in应该有“适应/克服”的意思。rock the boat, 是“打乱 和谐/平衡的局面/形势/情况”等的意思吧。
You are right. The saleman said "break in" to me when I bought boots in REI. That's how I knew the usage. And I read "rock the boat" from an email yesterday. Then I think I should share them here. :)
